A phone can make a dozen kinds of noise in a day, yet its alerts often all sound alike. Finding a tone that is short, distinctive and not grating is harder than it seems. Notify Sound addresses that small but familiar problem by letting you build short synthetic sounds in a browser, then download or share them.

It is not a general-purpose music studio. The focus is compact tones: a ping, a two-note chime, a rising chirp or a retro game-like coin sound. You can start with a ready-made example, adjust it in an editor, or ask a connected AI assistant to sketch one from a written description. The result is intended for notification sounds, text tones and ringtones.

The AI route starts outside the editor. Notify Sound presents itself as an MCP server for assistants including Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and VS Code. After connecting it, you can describe the sound you want in ordinary language. The page gives an example of asking for a warm, low two-note message chime under a second long. The assistant builds the sound and returns a link that opens it in Notify Sound’s editor.

That handoff matters. The assistant is not the final destination, and its output is not just a description of a tone. The link brings the proposed sound into the editor, where you can play it and adjust it. If you would rather skip assistant setup, the site also offers a library of more than 200 starting sounds, according to the developer. Examples shown include a bell, a soft ping, a coin pickup and a three-note alert.

The AI workflow has a setup cost: you need an assistant that can connect to an MCP server and must configure that connection. The site provides instructions for several assistants, but that is still more involved than opening a sound picker and choosing a tone. Starting from the library is the simpler path.

What the editor lets you shape

Notify Sound builds sounds from layers of synthesized tone or noise. In the editor, those layers can be stacked and tuned, with controls for properties such as pitch, length, echo and tone. The sound loops while you make changes, so you can hear the effect of an adjustment rather than guessing from a waveform or a label. A brighter layer can add definition; a lower one can give a sound more weight. The developer also describes adjusting the overall space around a sound to change its feel.

This is a sound maker for brief, designed cues, not a conventional audio editor for trimming field recordings or arranging songs. Its approach assumes you want to create with synth layers and sliders. If the sound you need depends on a specific recorded voice, instrument take or environmental sample, the described workflow is a poor fit. The page describes no recording or sample-import workflow.

When a tone is ready, you can save it, share it by link or download it. Notify Sound runs on the web, so the sound is made in a browser rather than in a dedicated phone app. To use a download as a phone alert, you still need to set it on the device. The product description names notification sounds, text tones and ringtones as uses, but the app does not remove that final device-setting step.

A narrow answer to a common annoyance

The same short cues could suit a message alert, an app event or a video edit. The landing page also suggests using sounds in personal apps and games. Those are plausible extensions of the same basic job: make a short sound with a particular character, then reuse it. The core is still the editor and its library, not a full sound-production environment.

The app is free, and the developer says no account is needed. If you want to see the library and editor workflow, Notify Sound is where to start. Its appeal depends on whether you want to shape a small synthetic sound yourself or are willing to configure an AI assistant to help produce a starting point.

Notify Sound is for people who care enough about their phone alerts to replace generic pings with a tuned, personal cue. It is not for someone who needs a full audio workstation, works from recorded material, or expects a ready-made mobile app to handle every step of setting a ringtone.
