Plenilune shows tonight's Moon as an engraving: phase, moonrise and moonset, eclipses, all computed for the place where you are. It works offline, with no account, no ads and no tracking.
About Plenilune
Plenilune is an illustrated lunar almanac for iPhone and iPad. The phase of the Moon is computed from its real position, then rendered as an engraving. Moonrise and moonset times, and the visibility of eclipses, are calculated for the place where you are.
The almanac has three sections: Moon, Sun and Sky. The day's course is drawn as a curve, with dawn, astronomical night, the next perigee and the next two eclipses. A monthly calendar gives one card per day, and widgets put the current phase on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen.
Every morning Plenilune tells one moon story: a saying, a belief, a fact of astronomy. The twelve traditional full moons have their own names, stories and engraved emblems.
What it deliberately does not do: no horoscope, no predictions, no account, no ads, no tracking, and no network call to read the sky. Everything is computed on the device and works offline.
I'm an illustrator. I drew the engravings and built the app on my own. Premium is a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, and that is how the app lives without advertising.
What Plenilune does that nothing else does
Other moon apps show the same NASA photograph. Here the Moon is computed from its real position and then drawn, as in an old almanac, with the folklore that goes with it.

Can the Moon and Sun widgets show different details on the Home Screen and Lock Screen?

Yes. The widgets already adapt to their available space: Home Screen versions show more context, while Lock Screen versions focus on compact details such as the phase or the next moonrise or moonset. Their content is currently fixed for each size, but I’m working on customization. The first release will let users choose what their Home Screen widgets display while Lock Screen layouts will remain fixed for now.

How does Plenilune determine your location and calculate moonrise and eclipse visibility without an internet connection?

It uses iOS Location Services (with permission only while the app is in use) or a city you choose manually. It saves the resulting coordinates locally. From those coordinates, the date and time, it calculates moonrise, moonset and local eclipse visibility directly on the device using Jean Meeus’s astronomical algorithms. No server or internet connection is needed for these calculations. One nuance: converting a city name into coordinates, or coordinates into the displayed city name, requires a one-off request to Apple’s geocoding service. Once the location is saved, Plenilune continues working offline. Coordinates are never sent to me or to advertisers.

The free version is a real lunar almanac, not a trial. It gives you today's phase, its age and its illumination, plus moonrise and moonset for your location. The whole current month is there: the calendar and a page for every day. Eclipses too, with what is actually visible from where you are. There are widgets for the Home Screen and the Lock Screen, and a notification for each full moon and new moon. No ads, and nothing to sign up for. Premium adds the complete daily moon story. It also opens the months before and after this one, the twelve traditional full moons with their own page and engraved emblem, notifications for the daily story and for rare events, and sixteen alternate app icons. You can take it as a yearly subscription, or pay once and keep it for life.
