A tile layout can look straightforward until the first corner, opening, uneven wall, or niche changes the pattern. A plan that works on a rectangle may leave awkward slivers at the edges or mismatched joints where two surfaces meet. Those problems are expensive to discover after tiles have been cut.
Layometry is a web-based tile layout planner built to let you inspect those decisions in 3D before installation. It takes wall, floor, tile, and grout dimensions, then shows the proposed arrangement, including full tiles, cut areas, openings, and connected surfaces. Its useful distinction is that it aims to model the job rather than only calculate how many tiles fit in a simple rectangle.
From measurements to a visible layout
The basic workflow starts with the room. You add walls, a floor, and the relevant dimensions, then configure the tile format, grout width, thickness, pattern, orientation, and centring. The planner supports rectangular, hexagonal, and round tiles, along with straight and running-bond layouts. Grid rotation and offsets allow the arrangement to be adjusted rather than accepting one fixed starting point.
The result is a 3D view where you can inspect the installed pieces and their waste areas. That matters because a tile calculator that returns only a quantity cannot show whether a layout produces an unattractive or impractical edge cut. Layometry presents cut dimensions and can group the required pieces into a cut list across the project surfaces.
For irregular rooms, the scope goes beyond four walls. Floors can use L-shaped outlines, chamfers, or custom shapes with up to 64 corners. Uneven walls can be represented with four measurements so wedge-shaped edge cuts account for the skew. The planner also includes projections, columns, windows, fixtures, niches, and tiled faces around those elements.
A planner with a text-based assistant
Layometry also includes an assistant that converts a plain-language description into project operations. A sentence can specify dimensions, tile format, grout, a niche, or a window. The assistant then builds the corresponding surfaces and elements in the open project. The idea is not to produce a decorative visualisation from a prompt. It creates editable geometry that can be reviewed in the planner.
The activity feed is important here. It shows what the assistant interpreted, calculated, and changed. Each completed batch remains available as a card with an Undo action. That gives the user a way to inspect and reverse a mistaken interpretation instead of having to rebuild the room manually.
The assistant is restricted to the open project. According to the developer, it cannot access a database, a file, or another person's layout. Its operations are also used for both the 3D view and the generated PDF, which is intended to keep the on-screen numbers and report aligned. The page says the assistant checks a handbook covering matters such as typical heights, grout widths, and room sizes, but those references should not be treated as a substitute for the measurements and tolerances of a real site.
What comes out of the project
The planning stage is aimed at producing something useful beyond the screen. Layometry can generate PDF drawings with cut dimensions, a CSV cut list, and a JSON project backup. The cut list is grouped across the project's surfaces, which is more practical for a multi-wall job than separate calculations that have to be combined by hand.
Connected surfaces are another central part of the tool. Walls can meet inline or at 90 degrees, and a floor can be added so the user can inspect junctions. Different materials can be assigned to accent zones, mosaic areas, niche faces, and returns. Adhesive and tile thickness are included in the geometry, while openings are excluded from the tile calculation.
The product is available as a free plan with a paid upgrade. It can be opened without an account, and guest projects are stored in the current browser. Signing in is required for cloud projects and exports, with signed-in projects saved to a private workspace. The developer also describes access as limited for now, so availability is part of the practical buying decision.
Where Layometry fits, and where it does not
This is aimed at people responsible for the result: tile professionals checking a layout before cutting, designers and specifiers reviewing scale and junctions, and DIY renovators who need more guidance than a basic quantity estimate provides. Contractors may also find the cut list and PDF useful when communicating a plan or preparing work.
There are clear boundaries. Layometry runs on the web, not as a listed desktop or mobile application, although its page says the interface adapts to phones and that a tablet or desktop is more comfortable for complex projects. Guest storage is tied to the current browser, and export requires signing in. More importantly, the planner cannot confirm whether a user's measurements are correct, whether a wall is suitable, or whether on-site tolerances have been handled properly. The developer explicitly advises checking measurements and installation tolerances before cutting.
That makes Layometry a strong fit for visualising and checking a proposed tile layout, especially when corners, openings, niches, or uneven edges are involved. It is not a replacement for site measurement or installation judgement. If all you need is a quick material estimate for a simple rectangle, its detailed 3D workflow may be more than necessary.
