What WUTONG xmp2c1 Does With Lightroom Presets

A Windows utility for carrying XMP-based looks into Capture One without flattening every preset group into one folder.

A photographer can spend months building a useful Lightroom preset library, then face a less creative problem when a client, studio or personal workflow moves to Capture One. The look may exist as an XMP file, but the destination expects a different kind of style package. Rebuilding everything by hand is slow, and simply applying a generic conversion can leave a large library difficult to organise.

WUTONG xmp2c1 is a Windows desktop tool aimed at that specific handoff. It takes Lightroom Classic or Camera Raw XMP looks and produces Capture One style packages, with optional CUBE LUT exports for other applications. Its useful idea is not that it makes the two applications identical. It tries to preserve a workable version of the look while keeping the source groups and camera targets visible in the output.

The workflow starts with existing presets

The application assumes that Lightroom Classic and Capture One are already part of your setup. Presets are installed or imported into the local Lightroom installation, where xmp2c1 detects the available collection. You then select one or more preset groups, choose the camera models you use, and set an output location.

The tool is therefore not a general-purpose colour editor or a replacement for either host application. It sits between them. Its job is to translate the global colour and tone intent in an XMP preset into files that Capture One can import.

The group selection matters for anyone managing a real catalogue rather than a handful of presets. According to the developer, multiple Lightroom groups stay separate instead of being merged into a single generic folder. Groups can also be renamed before packaging. That gives the user a chance to tidy delivery names without rebuilding the source library.

There is a practical requirement here that is easy to miss: the workflow depends on a local Lightroom installation and Capture One, and the listed platform is Windows. A photographer working only on macOS cannot use this version of the tool. It also is not designed to discover presets from a standalone archive without first making them available through Lightroom.

What one conversion produces

For each selected XMP preset, xmp2c1 creates separate RAW and JPEG branches for Capture One. Each branch contains styles at full, three-quarter, half and quarter strength. The resulting files are bundled into a Capture One import package, with matched ICC and style files used together.

That structure addresses a common practical issue. A look that works on a RAW file may need a different treatment when applied to a JPEG, and a photographer may not want every style at maximum intensity. The four strength levels offer starting points without requiring the user to duplicate and manually reduce each style in Capture One.

The output is more than a single style file. The developer describes each XMP as producing eight Capture One styles in total, split between RAW and JPEG, while keeping the camera target in the package. There is also an option to install the finished styles into Capture One automatically after conversion rather than importing them as a separate manual step.

The free plan includes two complete conversions, which is enough to test a small part of a library before deciding whether the result suits a larger catalogue. A paid upgrade is available for broader use. That makes the first decision less about trusting a description and more about testing a few representative presets, especially ones that rely heavily on camera-specific behaviour.

LUT export is useful, but narrower

xmp2c1 can also export CUBE LUTs. It creates a 33-point version intended for mobile-oriented workflows and a higher-resolution 65-point version for desktop applications with a dedicated LUT loader. The stated destinations include tools such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro.

This makes the utility relevant to photographers who also deliver looks for video, compositing or other creative applications. A LUT can carry a global colour transformation into another application, which is useful when the destination does not understand Lightroom XMP or Capture One style files.

It should not be treated as a complete backup of a Lightroom preset. Adaptive masks, crop settings, healing, sharpening, noise reduction and other image-dependent adjustments do not become universal LUT data. The two raw engines also interpret camera files differently. The converted result may preserve the broad colour and tone direction without matching the original image pixel for pixel.

That limitation is central to what the product actually solves. It reduces the work involved in moving a creative look between applications. It does not remove the need to inspect the result, adjust it for the target camera and check important client work in the destination program.

Who should use it

WUTONG xmp2c1 makes the most sense for photographers and preset makers who maintain the same creative system across Lightroom Classic and Capture One. It is particularly suited to someone with organised XMP groups, multiple camera bodies and a need to distribute styles at several intensities. The optional LUT output adds value when those looks must also travel into compatible desktop or mobile workflows.

It is a poor fit for photographers who need exact reproduction of complex Lightroom edits, work exclusively on macOS, or want a tool that edits images rather than converts preset definitions. The conversion engine is also not transparent, so users who need to inspect or control every translation step may find the workflow too opaque.

For the narrower problem of moving global Lightroom looks into a structured Capture One workflow, however, the design is sensible. Treat the free conversions as a test rather than assuming equivalence. If the broad look survives on the cameras and images you actually use, the tool can save repetitive preset work. If your presets depend on masks and local corrections, it will only carry part of the recipe.
