About Rotty
Feeds stopped feeling like people. Reddit threads fill up with "Great question! This really resonates 🙌". Every viral post on X collects a hundred replies that just say "this 🔥". LinkedIn is broetry, "Agree? ♻️" and "comment GUIDE and I'll DM it to you". The good posts are still there, buried under posts that look like content and say nothing.
Rotty is a free Chrome extension that works like a guard dog for your feed. It reads each post and reply on Reddit (new and old), X and LinkedIn the way a person would, and asks one question: is this substantive, or is it filler, bait, self-promotion, recycled formula or spam? If it's slop, Rotty folds it into a single quiet line in the site's own font, like "Hidden: engagement bait · Show". A run of hidden posts becomes one line, "3 posts hidden". Posts are checked several screens ahead, so slop folds away before you reach it.
Each site gets its own kinds of slop. LinkedIn gets broetry, congrats comments, comment-to-get bait and fake hiring farms. X gets reaction replies and thread bait. Reddit gets drive-by plugs and stealth marketing. Every type can be switched off per site, there are three strictness levels, and you can allowlist subreddits, accounts and people so they're never judged.
You choose what does the checking: your ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan, a free Groq key, your own API key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google), or Rotty Local, a small model that runs inside your browser so nothing leaves your computer. With a provider, post text goes straight from your browser to the provider you picked. The makers of Rotty run no server, have no analytics and never receive your data. A daily spending cap keeps paid keys cheap, and ChatGPT, Groq's free tier and Rotty Local cost nothing extra.
Who it's for: anyone who reads Reddit threads for real answers, follows people on X for their ideas rather than the reply guys, or uses LinkedIn for work and is tired of wading through thought-leadership filler.
An open-source version, Rotty Lite, is available on GitHub under the MIT license.
